The Gaston (NC) Police Department has a new member of its narcotics enforcement team—K-9 Jax—that was once a rescue dog and was taken in and trained by a local establishment focused on animal care, shelter, and training.
According to ABC News , the organization Camp Mutt donates services to the local animal shelter by teaching adoption-challenged dogs in obedience.
After a few months of behavior and obedience training, the trainers at the facility recognized in K-9 Jax an "intensity" and drive to work.
The group reached out to the Onslow County (NC) Sheriff's Office, which then put them in touch with Gaston PD. The training for the dog then began to focus on narcotics detection and enforcement.
K-9 Jax will be officially sworn-in for duty in July.
