An officer with the New Jersey Transit Police Department used CPR to save the life of an infant that was discovered unresponsive in the bathroom of a train station.
According to NorthJersey.com, Officer Bryan Richards responded to Newark Penn Station Tuesday and found a woman in a restroom cradling her unresponsive newborn in her arms, transit police said in a statement.
Richards then began chest compressions on the newborn and came to the conclusion that the baby needed to be taken to the hospital immediately.
Richards—carefully cradling the baby—ran to a patrol vehicle driven by Officer Alberto Nunes, who then drove the child and Richards to a nearby hospital as Richards continued CPR.
Upon arrival at the hospital the child had regained consciousness and was treated by emergency room medical professionals.
"An excellent job and another precious life saved by New Jersey Transit Police Officers," the agency later said in the statement.
