GA Officer Chose Not to Shoot Teen Who Ran Over Him with Stolen SUV
“I was looking in that kid[’s] eyes. I was like, ‘I don’t want to hurt this kid.’ I didn’t want to take nobody’s kid away from them,” Officer Ivory Morris said.
A College Park, GA, police officer run over by teens in a stolen car early Saturday morning says he thought about using deadly force but couldn’t bear the thought of taking a child from his mother.
“I was looking in that kid[’s] eyes. I was like, ‘I don’t want to hurt this kid.’ I didn’t want to take nobody’s kid away from them,” Morris said.
College Park Police told WSB Officer Ivory Morris’ life was in danger and he had every right to end the threat — but he didn’t.
Morris said he was working a part-time job around 1:30 a.m. Saturday when the incident happened.
The officer suffered a broken leg and other injuries.
He tried to apprehend a 17-year-old suspect at the scene. The suspect jumped on the hood of the SUV with Morris still holding him. The driver reportedly swerved and threw Morris and the teen off the hood. He then reportedly ran over them both intentionally.
The other suspects are still at large.
