A Laurel, MD, police officer was shot Wednesday morning as he and other officers were serving an arrest and search warrant in connection with an attempted murder case.
"He was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for his injuries, and he has recently been released, and is expected to be OK with non-life-threatening injuries," Laurel police spokeswoman Laura Guenin told WBAL.
Police said its emergency response team announced its presence and the suspect fired from inside the house, striking an officer in the arm. The wounded officer is 35 years old with more than six years of service with the Laurel Police Department.
Police charged Grayson Simms, 23, with first- and second-degree attempted murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, first- and second-degree assault, intentionally causing physical injury to a law enforcement officer, reckless endangerment and handgun on their person. Simms was previously charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder, assault and firearms-related charges for a shooting on April 11 in Laurel.
