The Atlanta Police Department credits officers for reacting quickly and applying a tourniquet to a man who had been shot in the shoulder Sunday. The department recently released body-worn camera video showing the officers in action.
At 12:31 a.m. officers responded to a call of a person shot and on arrival found an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound to the shoulder. Officers quickly applied a tourniquet to the man’s arm to control the bleeding while assuring him that would save his life and not cause him to lose his arm.
“You’re not going to lose your arm. You can keep this on for 12 hours before you are in danger of that,” an officer tells the victim in the video.
EMS arrived and the man was transported to a local hospital.
The gunshot victim told officers he thought the shooting was related to a possible road rage incident between him and another driver in which shots were fired along Interstate 85 southbound.
