One officer was shot and another injured in a collision while responding to help Wednesday afternoon in Memphis, TN.

Officers with the Auto Theft Task Force and the SCORPION unit were engaged in an operation during which an officer in an unmarked vehicle drove by and was followed from the area by two males in a 2012 Infiniti sedan. The two suspects located the vehicle occupied by the officer and both fired multiple rounds striking the officer and an occupied home nearby, according to the Memphis Police Department.

The wounded officer fled from the area of the shooting and was taken to Regional One Hospital by additional Memphis officers.

Other officers began searching for the suspects, located the Infiniti occupied by three suspects, and attempted a traffic stop. But police say the vehicle fled. Officers pursued the suspects with the assistance of the Aviation Unit.

When the suspects’ car stopped, three males police say had weapons ran into a wooded area. Officers established a perimeter and took all three suspects into custody. All guns were recovered, and police learned the Infiniti was stolen.

Second Officer Injured

At 12:35 pm, while responding to help the wounded officer, another officer was involved in a crash when a Hyundai sedan turned in front of the officer and the vehicles collided. The officer was taken to Regional One Hospital non-critical, and the driver of the Hyundai was transported in critical condition.
