Augustin Zambrano, 51, was identified as the "corona" of the Almighty Latin King Nation gang based in Chicago during the six-week trial. Zambrano was convicted on racketeering conspiracy (RICO) and other charges including narcotics trafficking and related violence.

FBI: Bank Crimes Fell In 2010
In 2010, there were 5,628 reported crimes against banking institutions compared with 6,065 violations in 2009. The 2010 data included 5,546 robberies, 74 burglaries, eight larcenies, and 13 extortion offenses that were reported to law enforcement.

Elite Chicago Cops Face Charges In Shakedowns, Plotting Murder of Fellow Officer
Jerome Finnigan and three former Chicago PD officers who were members of the disbanded Special Operations Section (SOS) were charged today for allegedly concealing unlawful searches or arrests in which they stole hordes of cash. Prosecutors say Finnigan planned to murder a former officer he believed would testify against him.

A Memphis Police officer advised East Memphis resident Kristen Anise Hall, 24, to clean up her pit bull's waste on Monday, and was met with a fight and a bite. Hall apparently bit the officer, after refusing to clean up after her dog, who was defecating in a park.

Three More Bodies Found at Long Island Beach
So far, eight women have been found in Suffolk County between Gilgo Beach and Oak Beach since last summer. At least four were Craigslist hookers. Police are still searching for escort Shannan Gilbert, who has been missing since December.

NYPD Rape Complaints Jump 24%
The NYPD logged 340 rape complaints in 2011, as compared with 274 in 2010. Brooklyn had the highest reported number (97), and Manhattan was second (86).

Rape Trial Opens for NYPD Cops
Officer Kenneth Moreno allegedly took advantage of a Gap employee who had given the officer the keys to her East Village apartment. Officer Moreno's partner Officer Franklin Mata has also been charged for apparently helping to cover up the crime.
