Officers inside the building responded to the shots and tried to negotiate with 51-year-old Suzanna Laprise, reports NEWS8. However, she fired on the officers, one of which returned fire.

But, that officer’s rounds were also stopped by the bullet-resistant glass between the public lobby and the office.

Laprise put the gun down and officers used an electronic control device to take her into custody.

She faces nine charges, which are:

  • Criminal attempt/murder with special circumstances

  • Illegal discharge of a firearm

  • Illegal carry of firearms under the influence of drugs/alcohol

  • Criminal use of a weapon

  • Violation of pistol permit requirements

  • Illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine

  • Criminal mischief

  • Reckless endangerment

  • Breach of peace
