WI Deputies Use Snowplow to End Pursuit Involving Historic Military Truck

Sunday evening, deputies from the Shawano County (WI) Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a military truck traveling down HWY 29 with a flat tire. Before the incident was over the deputies had pursued the vehicle twice and brought it to a stop by using snow removal equipment.

Around 5:15 p.m. deputies located the privately owned M35 Deuce and a Half truck and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver did not cooperate.

The Shawano County Special Response Team responded to the scene. Deputies, including trained negotiators, attempted to deescalate the situation. Arrangements were made with the Shawano County Highway Department for the use of heavy equipment in case this suspect vehicle became mobile again.

Which he did. At approximately 9:30 p.m. the suspect began to flee in the heavy vehicle again heading eastbound on Hwy 29, the sheriff's office says.

"Deputies attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, using snowplow trucks in an attempt to perform a moving roadblock. The suspect vehicle then crossed the median and began driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Hwy 29. The suspect eventually came back to the eastbound lanes but then again crossed the median and was driving the wrong way down the highway. At one point the suspect driver drove into the median and a deputy operating a snowplow truck was able to pin the truck into the median, immobilizing it. The suspect would not exit his vehicle and had to be removed with force, the sheriff's office reports on Facebook .

Suspect Aaron Renel was charged with attempting to flee or elude an officer, resisting an officer, and  second degree recklessly endangering safety, WeAreGreenBay reports.

No one was injured in the incident.

In the complaint, the deputy does say they were informed that the driver was part of an incident the week before involving PTSD and shooting a gun into the air.
