Rioting broke out Saturday night in a neighborhood where a Milwaukee officer shot and killed an armed man hours earlier during a foot chase.
About 100 rioters skirmished with officers Saturday night, after an officer shot and killed a 23-year-old man who was armed and ran from a traffic stop. Police say it's not clear whether the man pointed the gun at or fired at officers.
The protesters were in a standoff with officers, some of whom wore riot gear, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. Officers got in their cars to leave at one point and some in the crowd started smashing a squad car's windows. Another vehicle was set on fire, the newspaper reported.

The shooting that sparked the tensions occurred about 3:30 p.m. after officers stopped a car with two people inside. It wasn't immediately clear why the stop was made, the Associated Press reports.
"Following a request from Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, and after discussions with Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Adjutant General Donald Dunbar, I have activated the Wisconsin National Guard to be in a position to aid local law enforcement upon request," Walker said in a statement.
Walker said 125 guard members will be in place later Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke said he had requested the mobilization, WLSN TV reports
“We cannot allow for a repeat of what happened last night. I am going to utilize all available resources to accomplish that," Clarke said.
