Video: Okla. Cop Suspended for TASERing Drunk Woman
A McAlestar (Okla.) Police officer remains on active duty but can no longer use his TASER, after he used the less-lethal weapon on an intoxicated, handcuffed woman who spit on him.

A McAlestar (Okla.) Police officer remains on active duty but can no longer use his TASER, after he used the less-lethal weapon on an intoxicated, handcuffed woman who spit on him.
Officer Sterling Taylor was suspended from using the TASER following release of police surveillance video from the June 24 incident, rerports ABC News. In the video, Officer Taylor can be seen appearing to use his TASER on Nakina Williams at point blank range in drive-stun mode.
Williams, 28, had been handcuffed and had her arms flat on a counter behind her when she spit on the officer.
In his report, Williams wrote that "force was necessary and was within policy. Subject had spit on officer and was fixing to spit on officer again, force was used to stop action," reports the McAlestar News-Capital.
The agency's TASER policy states that officers should only use the less-lethal weapon after other conventional methods are ineffective and officers have a reasonable expectation that it would be unsafe to approach the subject.
"The TASER should only be used to control a dangerous or violent subject and ... is not intended to replace verbal problem solving skills, self-defense techniques or firearms," according to the policy.
