A Seattle police officer suffered a serious leg injury responding to protestors who were roaming Seattle streets near Seattle Center and South Lake Union Monday afternoon.
Patrick Michaud with Seattle police told KOMO TV the officer may have suffered a broken leg and that it was related to the protests, but didn’t give further details.
The incident began on Aurora Avenue just after 2:30 p.m. as protesters, chanting "black lives matter" jumped into traffic in the northbound lanes of Aurora Ave. N. just north of the Battery Street Tunnel. Eight of them tied themselves together with PVC pipe and laid down on the highway.
Officers gave the protestors warnings that they were going to face arrest, then began arresting them. Police say 19 protestors were taken into custody by the time the march ended.
Other protesters in that group then moved down Republican Avenue, and it was during that event that Seattle police say that there was a "use of force" incident that resulted in the officer injuring his leg.
