Video: KS K-9 Shot, Killed Apprehending Suspect
Wichita, KS, police are investigating after a 25-year-old suspect and K-9 Rooster were fatally shot Saturday night at the Lamp Lighter Mobile Home Park.

Wichita, KS, police are investigating after a 25-year-old suspect, identified as Kevin C. Perry, and K-9 officer Rooster were fatally shot Saturday night. It happened shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday at the Lamp Lighter Mobile Home Park.
Officers said when they arrived, a woman was outside. She said the suspect was armed with a gun and threatened to kill her.
"A 25-year-old male pointed a gun and threatened to kill a female and himself," said Chief Gordon Ramsay of the Wichita Police Department.
Police were setting up a perimeter around the home and contacting the suspect by phone when he came out of the home. They said the man did not listen to the officers' commands and walked back toward the house. That's when police released the K-9.
"K-9 Rooster was deployed to keep him from going back into the house as he committed a violent felony," said Chief Ramsay.
Police said Rooster held the suspect's leg before he could enter the home. Officers said the suspect pulled a gun from his waistband, prompting them to open fire.
Perry was transported for injuries and later pronounced dead at the hospital. Rooster was shot in the shoulder and neck area and died quickly after being shot.
Ramsay said Rooster was the first K-9 to die in the organization's history.
