Video: Judge Allows Teen Cop Killer's Confession In Trial

A judge ruled this afternoon that a videotaped confession from the accused teenage killer of a St. Petersburg (Fla.) Police officer can be used in his murder trial.
Pasco-Pinellas Circuit Judge Thane Covert ruled that information could be used from an interview conducted in the station's interrogation room that contained the confession of Nicholas Lindsey Jr., 16, to parents and police.
The judge also ruled that information could not be used from an initial interview about his shoes and whereabouts the night of the shooting. Attorneys for Lindsey claim police talked to the suspect before reading him his rights after he was arrested in the Feb. 21 slaying of officer Crawford, reports the St. Petersburg Times.
Lindsey told police he had tried to steal a white Dodge Neon in downtown. He was carrying a $140 pistol he had purchased, and hadn't test-fired it.
Officer Crawford, the third St. Petersburg police officer to be slain in less than a month, wasn't wearing a ballistic vest when he confronted Lindsey, who in the interview said, "I just started shooting."
Police tested flip-flops for DNA that were recovered from the scene of Officer's Crawford's shooting.
