Video: 4 Officers Hospitalized After Albuquerque Rampage
Albuquerque Police Chief Allen Banks said in a press conference that no motive had been determined for Chase’s attack. However, he did have a tattoo that reads “Cop Killer.”

Three Albuquerque police officers and a Bernalillo County Sheriff's deputy were hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a gunman opened fire on them Sunday. The shooter, who police identified as Christopher Chase, was killed during the attack.
Albuquerque Police Chief Allen Banks said in a press conference that no motive had been determined for Chase’s attack. However, he did have a tattoo that reads “Cop Killer.” Chase, 35, had a criminal record for fraud and embezzlement, according to KRQE TV.
Five officers were wounded in the ambush. One was treated and released. Of the other four who remain hospitalized Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Dep. Robin Hopkins appears to have suffered the most serious injuries. She underwent two surgeries on Sunday and was in the ICU at last report. Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston said during the press conference that Hopkins faces a long road to recovery.
Chase was wearing body armor and a black mask during the ambush. He wielded what police described as an “assault rifle” and what a caller to 911 called an AK-47.
The rampage began at 11:21 Sunday morning with a call to 911 from a man whom the gunman asked to call police. He informed 911 that the man was carrying an AK-47 and wearing camouflage. First responders from APD were fired upon as they arrived and one was hit. The second arriving officer took cover outside of his car and the gunman stole the the APD Charger and drove off down Broadway shooting at police who were in pursuit. The chase ended when the gunman crashed the charger into the pillar of a gas station. Authorities did not say if the gunman killed himself or was killed by police.
