The sheriff’s office reported in a Facebook statement that Sgt. Devon Lindsay, 26, was the victim of a hit-and-run accident that occurred at approximately 5 a.m.
“This unfortunate accident was preventable and we are mourning the loss of our co-worker.” Sheriff Duane Lewis stated. “We are thankful to the MAIT (multi-disciplinary accident investigative team) from SCHP for their work on this case and we are confident that justice will be served. We ask the community to please keep his family in their prayers as he leaves behind a wife and small children.”
A Toyota sedan struck his motorcycle before driving away, according to Trooper Nick Pye with the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Jessica Ann Goodwin, a 30-year-old from Harleyville, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a collision involving death, Pye told the Post and Courier.
Sgt. Lindsay joined the sheriff’s office in 2019. He was married with three children.
