A Cleveland County (OK) Sheriff's deputy reportedly jumped over downed power lines to pull a man from a burning car last week.
The man’s red 2008 Chevy Cobalt 2-Door Sport went off the road, took out two power poles and dropped the power lines.
Deputy Turner said he did touch a power line, but he was jumping and both feet were off the ground or he would have been shocked. He’d recently attended an educational seminar on the danger of downed lines but said he wasn’t really thinking about the danger at the time.

Cleveland County (OK) Sheriff's Deputy Kyle Turner risked jumping over downed power lines to save a man from this burning car. The deputy serves as a volunteer firefighter and has been trained in the dangers of downed power lines.
A Cleveland County (OK) Sheriff's deputy reportedly jumped over downed power lines to pull a man from a burning car last week.
The man’s red 2008 Chevy Cobalt 2-Door Sport went off the road, took out two power poles and dropped the power lines.
Deputy Kyle Turner was off-duty that day and had been hunting. On his days off, Turner serves as a volunteer firefighter for Cedar Country Fire and was on call.
First on the scene, Turner saw the car was on fire and power lines were down.
“I could hear somebody yelling for help,” he said. “A bystander who had been in the area hunting came running up and said a man was trapped.”
Turner saw the man was half in and half out of the car and still in the fire danger zone. As a volunteer firefighter, he always carries his fire gear with him and quickly geared up.
He jumped over the power poles and power lines, and was able to pull the man out of the immediate danger zone. Turner said he did touch a power line, but he was jumping and both feet were off the ground or he would have been shocked. He’d recently attended an educational seminar on the danger of downed lines but said he wasn’t really thinking about the danger at the time.
