No Bail for Ex-Marine Who Shot Fla. Deputy
On Monday, Judge Walter Heinrich revoked bail that had initially been set at $65,000 for Matthew Lane Buendia, who fired at Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy Deputy Lyonelle De Veaux on Friday.
The former Marine who shot a Hillsborough County (Fla.) Sheriff's deputy is no longer eligible for bail, a judge ruled today.
On Monday, Judge Walter Heinrich revoked bail that had initially been set at $65,000 for Matthew Lane Buendia, who fired at Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy Deputy Lyonelle De Veaux on Friday.
Deputy Lyonelle De Veaux had responded to a 911 call at a Tampa apartment, where Buendia fired nine rounds at her, striking her three times and then barricading himself for five hours.
On Sunday, a Hillsborough County Sheriff's spokesman said the office was outraged by the decision to grant Buendia bail. Judge Heinrich reversed that decision Monday and scheduled a pre-trial detention hearing for Thursday.
De Veaux, a five-year veteran of the department, was hit twice in the leg and once in the shoulder, the sheriff's office said. She was hospitalized in good condition and is expected to recover.
