The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) has released the 2011 edition of its calendar, "Remember."

The calendar has been issued every year since 1996 "to commemorate and honor the brave law enforcement officers who risk and sacrifice their lives in order to serve our nation," according to the Memorial Fund.

The calendar strives to remind us of the service and sacrifice these valiant men and women make to ensure our safety.

"The calendar is designed to help us all remember the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers across our nation, especially our fallen heroes," according to Craig W. Floyd, NLEOMF chairman and CEO.

"Remember" is an 8 ½-by-11-inch wall calendar that features a fallen hero and a living legend each month, with scenes of the D.C. memorial.

Each month tells the story of a fallen hero, an officer who made the ultimate sacrifice to serve his or her community, and a living legend, who received the Officer of the Month Award. This calendar may be purchased at the NLEOMF memorial Website. Proceeds support the Memorial Fund's continued efforts to respect, honor, and remember the courageous story of each fallen hero and living legend.

The Memorial Fund created the Officer of the Month program in September 1996 to recognize the living legends of the profession. Each month, a deserving officer or set of officers at the local, state or federal level is honored with this prestigious award. In addition to recognition in their own communities, officers of the month are honored at a special awards luncheon each May in D.C. during National Police Week.
