Former New York City Police Commissioner Howard Safir will host a six-part interview series on Sirius XM Radio to offer insight on the "drama, heroism and challenges faced by law enforcement officials today," according to the satellite broadcaster.
"The Badge with Howard Safir," which will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 29), is available on SiriusXM Stars 107. The initial episode will feature former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani as a guest. Safir will talk phone calls.
Safir served as police commissioner from 1996 to 2000 during Giuliani's administration. In the wide-ranging interview, they take on issues such as gun control, career criminals, homegrown terrorists, and leadership in the aftermath of 9/11. They also discuss their first-hand experience surrounding the assassination attempt of President Reagan. The show airs Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. East Coast time. It ends March 4.
Video clips of Safir's interview with Giuliani can be viewed at the SiriusXM Stars website.
On upcoming shows, Safir will be joined by current and former police chiefs, agents, decorated officers, prosecutors, issue advocates and other top-level insiders. They will offer listeners advice on how to stay safe and what to do if you are the victim of a crime, and explore topics such as what exactly happens when someone is arrested, realities and myths of popular television shows like "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," cyber crime and protecting your identity, career criminals, and the complexities of letting repeat offenders walk. Each week, Safir will honor fallen officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. He will also pay tribute to officers whose valor and courage have made them heroes in their communities.
"I am excited to have a national platform on which to share the bravery and hard work of our law enforcement officials and give listeners the chance to ask anything of some of the best in our field," Safir said in a release.
