FLEOA Rebuts Attack on Federal LEOs' Pay
The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) has announced its opposition to Representative Rice's PAID Act (H.R. 1137) and labeled it another ill‐advised attack on the pay of federal law enforcement officers.
The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) has announced its opposition to Representative Rice's PAID Act (H.R. 1137) and labeled it another ill‐advised attack on the pay of federal law enforcement officers.
Congressman Rice's bill seeks to cut the pay of law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line in service to our country. It fails to take into account the countless number of irregular hours law enforcement officers put in to ensure the safety of our homeland. In effect, Congressman Rice's bill would create a form of indentured servitude by failing to compensate federal law enforcement officers for the hours they work.
As of September 2014, there are more than 3,070 federal employees in South Carolina. This includes more than 140 federal law enforcement officers and more than 700 civilian DOD/Armed Services employees that would have their pay cut. FLEOA contends that Congressman Rice's misguided attempt to reduce government spending only serves to place dedicated federal officers under economic duress.
In response to Congressman Rice's bill, National President Jon Adler stated, "At a time when law enforcement officers are being targeted nationwide for the blue uniform they wear, with over 75 officers shot or killed since the beginning of this year, the Congressman needs to reassess his priorities and his commitment to supporting those who work tirelessly to defend our homeland and its institutions."
The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (www.fleoa.org) is the largest nonprofit, nonpartisan professional association that exclusively represents over 26,000 active and retired federal law enforcement officers from over 65 agencies.
