The Moore Police Department, Oklahoma, this week released body-worn video of a when officers fatally shot a 19-year-old man they say stabbed two family members in a home. Officers issued more than 20 verbal commands for the man to drop his weapon, a machete, before they fired.

In the department’s video , Capt. David Seay explained what happened, opening with audio recordings of calls to a 911 operator.

The first caller reported her son had just “freaked out” and stabbed her mother. She requested police at her home and said she had locked herself in a bedroom.

A second caller, a neighbor from across the street, told the dispatcher that her two neighbors had come to her home and said they had been stabbed.

“Officers arrived on the scene to discover a blood-covered front porch, door, and driveway accompanied by an audible disturbance coming from within the residence,” Seay said in the video briefing.

The video shows two officers arriving and approaching the door.

After seeing the young man through a window, one officer orders, “Hands up,” while the other commands, “Let me see your hands.”

“Officers immediately observed the weapon and delivered multiple commands to drop the weapon. Officers began backing away from the residents, continuing to give in excess of 20 commands,” Seay explained.

The video shows the armed man continuing to advance toward officers with the machete held up over his shoulder with both hands in a threatening manner.

The officers continued to back away, and the armed man continued to close the distance.

Ultimately, both officers fired, according to Seay.

Officers immediately rendered aid, as shown on the video, but the suspect was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Both victims had what police called significant injuries, but police added that they are expected to recover.
