County officials estimate that they would be on the hook for another $905,000 in salary and benefits. In addition, there is $81,000 in needed "cold weather gear" including jackets, gloves, hats and "turtleneck dickies" at a cost of $232 per deputy.

Shots Fired: Pinellas County, Fla., Crime Scene
Pinellas County (Fla.) Sheriff's Sgt. Raymond Fleming was among the deputies who pursued Kentin Dion Brooks during his campaign of vehicular terror. Dep. Jeffrey Newman performed the PIT maneuver on the black Mustang, and then Brooks opened up on the officers with a 9mm handgun from behind tinted windows. Shot Fired: Pinellas County, Fla., Cruiser Footage
Watch the dash-cam footage of Pinellas County (Fla.) Sheriff's Dep. Jeffrey Newman, who performed the PIT maneuver on Kentin Dion Brooks' black Ford Mustang on Oct. 28, 2009. Brooks then opened up on the deputies with a 9mm handgun from behind tinted windows. This footage shows rounds fired by the Pinellas deputies exiting the Mustang and striking the grass parkway.

Fla. Sheriff Buys Ford Police Interceptor Sedans
The Marion County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office has received the first vehicle in an initial delivery of 36 new Ford Police Interceptor sedans equipped with 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engines. The sheriff's office stated it is receiving four to five new Police Interceptors each week and will have 60 to 70 new vehicles within a few months.

Seven public safety agencies purchased Spillman software for the first time in the third quarter of 2009, bringing the total number of Spillman customers to more than 800 public safety agencies in 35 states across the nation. Forty-two agencies expanded their existing Spillman systems.

Florida Sheriff's Department Discourages Drinking From Disguised Flasks on Spring Break
The Okaloosa County (FL) Sheriff's Department posted to its Facebook page a picture of seized flasks that looked every bit as real as sunscreen as possible, adding the caption, "Spring Break fact: Hiding vodka in a sunscreen bottle only works if you don’t let a Deputy see you drink out of it."
