A Pope County, MN, sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed Saturday night while responding to a domestic violence call at an apartment building in Cyrus. Another Pope County SO deputy and a Starbuck, MN, police office were wounded and the suspect was killed in the incident.
MN Deputy Killed on Domestic Call, 2 Other Officers Wounded
As the officers attempted to arrest a man involved around 7:30 pm, he shot at them, striking all three before they returned fire and fatally shot him.

As the officers attempted to arrest a man involved around 7:30 pm, he shot at them, striking all three before they returned fire and fatally shot him. Deputy Joshua Owen was taken to a hospital and died, according to the Sheriff's Office. The other deputy and the Starbuck officer suffered noncritical injuries, the Star-Tribune reports.
Records show that Deputy Owen was killed on his 44th birthday; he was born April 15, 1979.
“Deputy Owen had a heart as big as his stature. He leaves behind a wife and a son. He loved his family, his brotherhood, and his community,” the Pope County SO reported on Facebook.
