Fired Miami police chief Art Acevedo will be the latest interim police chief in Aurora, CO, where officers and paramedics are being prosecuted over a 2019 in-custody death.
Aurora announced Tuesday that Acevedo had reached out to officials there offering to serve as the city's second interim police chief while the search for a permanent chief drags on, the Associated Press reports.
After leading departments in Austin and Houston, Acevedo was hired to become Miami's police chief last year. He was fired after six months on the job. He has sued the city.
The Aurora Police Department is under scrutiny over the death of Elijah McClain, 23, who died in police custody.
The controversial death led to protests and violent unrest in 2020.
