Two Georgia police officers were injured Sunday as they scrambled to escape from a home while taking gunfire from a man who later barricaded himself during a SWAT standoff.

Jackson Police Chief James Morgan said officers responded to a 911 call that reported a man screaming at a home. The officers arrived and found the door open, so they entered the home.

"While they were inside the residence, shots were fired at the officers. They retreated," Morgan tells FOX5.

One officer broke his wrist and the other sustained a large cut over her left eye. Both were treated and released at an area hospital.

The Butts County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team responded to the home and a negotiator talked with the gunman, but he remained barricaded overnight. He surrendered to the police Monday morning.
