POLICE to Hold Panel Discussion Webinar on Active Shooter Response

The webinar titled “Best Practices for Active Shooter Response and Police Training” will feature a panel of police active shooter response trainers and experts discussing critical police response and training issues.

POLICE Magazine is presenting a special active shooter response webinar on Thursday Nov. 10. Sponsored by Axon, the webinar titled “Best Practices for Active Shooter Response and Police Training” will feature a panel of police active shooter response trainers and experts discussing critical police response and training issues.

The panel includes:

* Don Alwes, a nationally recognized active shooter response expert who is a 40-year veteran of law enforcement. Alwes developed and served as a lead instructor for the Police Response to Active Shooter Instructor certification courses for the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA). He also worked with the NTOA, the International Association for Chiefs of Police (IACP), and the Department of Justice to develop curricula and served as a lead instructor for School and Workplace Violence classes.

* Dr. J. Pete Blair is the executive director of the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center and a professor in the School of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Texas State University. He is an internationally recognized expert on active attacks and police training.

* Rod Ellis, a 35-year veteran of law enforcement who has served as the chief of the Glynn County, GA, Board of Education Police for the last 12 years. Ellis is a DHS/FLETC certified active threat response instructor, and is a member of the Georgia Governor's School Safety Advisory Group. 

The webinar will cover a wide variety of active shooter topics, including how to vet police and civilian training, how to prevent  and heal training scars, officer response tactics, command and control concerns, and what police can do to prevent or deter attacks.

“Best Practices for Active Shooter Response and Police Training” will be held Thursday Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. Eastern/11 a.m. Pacific.
