Off-Duty CA Officer Murdered in Parking Lot

An off-duty officer with the Monterey Park Police Department (CA) was murdered in broad daylight Monday afternoon in a parking lot outside LA Fitness in Downey.

An off-duty officer with the Monterey Park Police Department (CA) was gunned down in broad daylight Monday afternoon in a parking lot outside LA Fitness in Downey.

The Downey Police Department responded to multiple calls reporting a person shot about 3:45 p.m. and investigators tell FOX 11 the officer was shot multiple times while sitting in his car. The fallen officer has not been identified but the 25-year-old had recently joined the department. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Right now our main focus is making sure that the person who did this is brought to justice and the investigation is allowed to take place the way it needs to take place,” Monterey Park Police Department Chief Kelly Gordon tells KTLA.

A manhunt for the shooting suspect was underway today. The Downey Police Department is leading the investigation but has not released any suspect information or possible motive for the shooting.
