A K-9 with the Vacaville (CA) Police Department is now credited with the apprehension of two burglary suspects who had attempted to hide from police after leading them on a vehicle pursuit.

According to CBS News, the subjects—identified by police as 18-year-old Khevionze Gutierrez and 18-year-old Ramon Smith—fled on foot into a wooded area and attempted to hide from police after their vehicle crashed into a home.

However, K-9 Scout quickly found them and both men were taken into custody.

The agency said, in part, on Facebook, "Our four-legged partner helped locate the two suspects."

The social media post concluded, "We'd like to thank the residents who called about the suspects running through their backyards, as they helped us narrow our search considerably—if you find clothing or items in your backyards that do not belong to you, please call us and we'll recover it. We believe cooperation is the key to resolving conflicts, often stopping them before they begin. We rely on that cooperation from our community, just as much as we seek cooperation on every car stop, to safely keep the peace in our town."
