Two officers with the Aurora (CO) Police Department were shot while conducting a pursuit of a suspect who had allegedly robbed several convenience stores.

According to ABC News, the officers were attached to the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force

Denver Division Chief of Patrol Ron Thomas said at a news briefing that the suspect then tried steal a vehicle at gunpoint from two people.

Aurora police engaged the suspect and shots were fired.

The two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital where they were treated and released.

Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman said "My prayers are with the officers and their families for a speedy recovery. Both Denver and Aurora are facing a surge in violent crime and I deeply appreciate the sacrifices that our men and women in blue are making to stem the violence."

The robbery suspect—whose name has not yet been released—was also shot multiple times and is in critical condition.
