Inmates Released from Rikers Under COVID-19 Policy Have Re-Offended

More than 100 inmates who were released from incarceration on Rikers Island following Coronavirus concerns in late March have committed subsequent crimes.

More than 100 inmates who were released from incarceration on Rikers Island following Coronavirus concerns in late March have committed subsequent crimes.

According to the New York Post, approximately 110 recently released inmates have accounted for 190 arrests since they were let loose from prison.

Of those arrests, 45 were for burglaries, helping drive the 43-percent spike in break-ins over the last month, according to NYPD data.

Hundreds more inmates have been released and not reoffended, according to police data.
