A man has been charged with attempted homicide of an officer with the Appleton (WI) Police Department.

According to WLUK, the man—identified as 49-year-old Troy VanGrinsven—was apparently suicidal at the time of the incident, telling officers that he wanted them to kill him.

VanGrinsven then reportedly attacked officers with a kitchen knife. He has been charged with battery to an officer, resisting, and obstruction.

Two officers were injured in the attack. They were transported to a nearby hospital, where they were treated and released.

VanGrinsven made an initial appearance Wednesday in Outagamie County court, where a $500,000 cash bond was set.
