VirTra will present a class on new training strategies through the Law Enforcement Education Program (LEEP) at SHOT Show later this month in Las Vegas.

The class titled "Deliberate Practice: If It Doesn't Challenge You, It Doesn't Change You" is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday Jan. 22 in the Marcello 4504 room in the Sands Convention Center.

"Public and political expectation of law enforcement officers' performance has drastically increased, yet the training strategies employed and actual field performance have not altered much in the last two decades," VirTra says. "Deliberate practice provides a structure for continual improved performance heading toward a path of mastery. This increase in performance can lead to better confidence in officers and better outcomes."

Lon Bartel, senior subject matter expert for VirTra, is the instructor for this class. Bartel is a retired peace officer and has been a certified law enforcement trainer for more than 17 years. Arizona POST recognizes Bartel as an expert in the areas of defensive tactics and firearms, and he is a co-founder of the Arizona Tactical Officers Association.

POLICE sponsors the LEEP program in partnership with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF).
