Following a review of video of an incident in which a man is seen violently attacking an officer with the Maxton (NC) Police Department, a judge doubled the suspect's bond from $75,000 to $150,000.

According to ABC News, cell phone video circulating on social media shows a suspect—who has since been identified as James Thompson—kicking and beating Officer Michael Sale outside of a convenience store on Saturday night while a crowd of people surrounds the combatants and cheers on the attack.

Thompson has been charged with assault on a government official.

Maxton Police Chief J.J. Ruppe said that Officer Sale is in high spirits and ready to come back to work, but won't be allowed to do so until he's released from doctor's care.
