There is a recruiting and retention crisis in law enforcement across the country. Myriad agencies are struggling to keep the ranks full as senior officers retire out. Many young people today look at the law enforcement profession and see the inherent risk of being disciplined, fired, sued in civil court, vilified on social media, or much worse for simply doing the job of police work—within the law and department policy—and they say, "Yeah, I think I'll be a software engineer instead.
