Illinois Police Arrest Man Who Allegedly Plotted Mass Shooting

The Pittsfield (IL) Police Department said in a statement on Wednesday that on Monday officers arrested a man who allegedly made threats on social media that he planned to shoot and kill students in the Pikeland School District.

The Pittsfield (IL) Police Department said in a statement on Wednesday that on Monday officers arrested a man who allegedly made threats on social media that he planned to shoot and kill students in the Pikeland School District.

According to KHQA-TV, officers located the man and upon searching his home determined that he did not at the time possess a weapon.

They took the man into custody on charges of disorderly conduct.

The department said in a statement, "There have been rumors in the community that indicated that [the man] pulled a gun on students and showed up at the school with a gun. These rumors simply are not true. We treated it as a credible threat and quickly located [the man] who did not have any weapons. [The man] has been banned from school zones of the Pikeland School District."
