A gunman who ambushed officers with the Los Angeles Police Department was shot and killed by officers on Sunday night.

According to NBC News, the gunman was standing on a corner at an intersection in the El Sereno area of Los Angeles when a patrol vehicle stopped at a traffic light.

The man reportedly opened fire, striking the patrol vehicle at least once. The man then ran into an alley, where he exchanged gunfire with pursuing officers.

The assailant was struck and killed. His name was not immediately released.

No officers were hurt.
