An officer with the Sandusky Police Department saved a teenager's life by using a dog leash as a tourniquet on Saturday night.

According to CBS News, the boy had accidentally shot himself and was bleeding even though his mother was applying pressure to the wound.

Officer Darian Cook saw the boy's condition and knew he had to act quickly.

"We need a tourniquet," Cook said as he ran to his vehicle. The boy's mother applied pressure to the wound while Cook ran to his car.

When Cook could not locate a tourniquet he grabbed a dog leash that was in the back of his patrol vehicle and used it to stop the bleeding until EMS arrived.
