A police sergeant with the Barnstable (MA) Police Department died suddenly over the weekend, the agency announced on Sunday.
The agency said on Facebook, "It is with a heavy heart that the BPD announces the sudden and unexpected loss of Sergeant Jason Sturgis last night."
Sturgis was a 19-year veteran of the department and had previously been assigned to the Community Impact Unit before returning to the Patrol Division.
The Facebook post concluded, "Sergeant Sturgis touched many lives both here at the BPD and out in his community. He was greatly respected and will be sorely missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him."
Police did not release a cause of death.
