Hundreds of citizens joined officers with the Grand Prairie Police Department at a candlelight vigil Sunday night in honor of Officer Albert Castaneda, who was struck and killed by a car Friday morning while standing outside of his patrol vehicle running radar on the President George Bush Turnpike.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the crowd of people illuminated the lights on their mobile phones if they did not have a candle in their hands.

Chief Steve Dye said at the ceremony that Castaneda was "not just one of the best members of our department, but one of the best that our society has to offer."
