A man accused of shooting a police officer in northwestern Washington state is to appear at trial on Wednesday.

According to the Skagit Valley Herald, the man—46-year-old Ernesto Lee Rivas—faces 11 charges including attempted murder and first-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

The incident—which occurred in December 2016—sparked a lengthy standoff after Rivas reportedly shot Mount Vernon police officer Michael "Mick" McClaughry.

McClaughry suffered a bullet wound to the head which damaged his short term memory and left him nearly blind.
