The president of the Portland, OR, police union has blasted City Council, saying anti-cop sentiment is the reason the Portland Police Bureau is shorthanded.
The statement by Daryl Turner came after a City Council meeting last week, KATU reports. On Monday, Turner said the reason PPB is understaffed is because of the "intense anti-police sentiment in our city, that city council seems to share."
Mayor Ted Wheeler released a statement in response writing, "The Portland Police Bureau needs our support now more than ever. They have been feeling the weight of the local and national anti-policing attitudes and it's not fair to them as they play critical roles in serving our community."
