A deputy with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office shot during an undercover drug bust Wednesday night is now in stable condition.

According to WVUE-TV, two suspects—identified as 38-year-old Chris Joseph and 39-year-old Daviri Robertson—were fatally shot in the exchange of gunfire that broke out during an undercover drug operation.

Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said in a press briefing following the incident that the two subjects arrived at the location of the operation. Detectives blocked their car in and attempted to make arrests but the subjects attempted to flee in the car, striking at least one deputy.

Deputies opened fire, fatally striking both subjects. A deputy standing on the passenger side of the car was shot in the abdomen, most likely struck by another deputy, Lopinto said.

The deputy who was struck by the car and the deputy who was struck by gunfire are both expected to be OK.
