The theft of a golf cart at a course in Isleta, NM, Friday triggered a series of events that left a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputy seriously injured and a suspect dead.
The events leading up to the fatal officer-involved shooting began around 6:00 a.m. when Isleta PD called BCSO to report people trying to steal golf carts. A person was then reported seen running across the golf course.
The suspect reportedly broke into a nearby home and forced the two people into their car and had them drive. Deputies initiated a pursuit.
Deputies laid down spike stripes and executed a pit maneuver. As they attempted to block the vehicle the suspect pinned a deputy to a car and broke the deputy’s leg and an arm, KRQE TV reports.
