The University of Rhode Island's Kingston campus was locked down at noon today in response to reports that a gunman was inside the university's Chafee Hall. Students, faculty and staff were being encouraged to take shelter.

Emergency alerts have been sent via phone calls, text and e-mails, reports WPRI. No shots have been fired and no injuries have been reported, claims Boston.com. Classes have been cancelled.

The Rhode Island State Police have reported they found no evidence of a shooter or firearm, but have recovered a Nerf gun.
