The FBI has arrested four Southern California men who planned to join a "violent jihad" and attack U.S. military bases in Afghanistan.

The men were arrested with the help of an undercover informant who wore a recording device to help capture evidence of the plot. Three of the men were arrested Friday by the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, reports the Riverside Press-Enterprise.

Investigators believe the ringleader is Sohiel Omar Kabir, 34. Kabir, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Afghanistan, served one year inthe U.S. Air Force. Kabir introduced Ontario resident Ralph Deleon, 23, and Upland resident Miguel Alejandro Santana, 21, to radical Islamic ideology. In September, Deleon and Santana recruited Arifeen David Gojali, 21, of Riverside to travel to Afghanistan for terrorist training.

Kabir allegedly became an acolyte of Anwar Awlaki, the radical Muslim cleric and U.S. citizen killed in Yemen in 2011, reports the Los Angeles Times.
