New York's emergency call takers field nearly 4 million accidental 911 calls a year, including many that are referred to as "butt calls."

The accidental calls made up 38% of the 10.4 million emergency calls in 2010, according to the Daily News. That year police were dispatched to 3.4 million calls.

The accidental calls also included false alarm "short calls" of 19 seconds or less for an average of 10,700 false calls a day.
