Segway Scooters Recalled

Inventor Dean Kamen’s Segway Human Transporter scooter is being recalled because of injuries incurred when low batteries may have caused riders to fall off. While the scooters travel only up to 12 miles per hour and use a gyroscope to steady riders, it seems that when the battery is too low there isn't enough power to keep the product upright, causing the rider to fall off.

Inventor Dean Kamen’s Segway Human Transporter scooter is being recalled because of injuries incurred when low batteries may have caused riders to fall off.

The recall involves about 6,000 of the two-wheel motorized scooters, including the Segway HT i167 (iseries), e167 (e series), and p133 (p series).

While the scooters travel only up to 12 miles per hour and use a gyroscope to steady riders, it seems that when the battery is too low there isn't enough power to keep the product upright, causing the rider to fall off.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced three people have been injured. One suffered a head wound and needed stitches.
