To prevent violence and promote calm, Portuguese law enforcement decided to allow fans of England’s soccer team to smoke marijuana before a major match against France held in Lisbon Sunday.
Local cops were given orders to crack down on drunken fans while letting pot smokers be. A similar policy used at the Euro 2000 soccer match in Holland is said to have been successful in calming England’s “football hooligans.”
A Lisbon police spokeswoman said, “If people cause a problem through drugs and become a menace then police will take action. But when this doesn’t happen why should the police be the ones making the fuss?”
