NYPD Officers Get Phone App to Connect Hearing Impaired with Translators
Officers with the New York Police Department now have a better way to communicate with subjects who are deaf or hard of hearing with a teleconferencing system that is similar to Skype, allowing the hearing impaired person to speak in sign language and the officer to communicate verbally with a translation conducted by interpreters employed by the city.

Spanish On Patrol is an online training program that teaches law enforcement Spanish. Digitelligent has recently made improvements to the service. An interactive index to the program makes finding a word or phrase easy. Traffic and DUI units now include five more lessons and a unit on 911/Dispatch has been added. The Spanish On Patrol self-paced online course focuses on survival and essential Spanish vocabulary with an audio/visual learning environment. No prior knowledge of Spanish is required.
